After-Word

Does the author's intention matter, once a book is published? I'm not sure. But for those readers who have an interest in that sort of thing, my goal in writing AFTER was to explore, through fiction, the fictions we tell ourselves to make us feel we are better than our enemies. That's about it.

Some reviewers called the book "disturbing." I think of it as a love story, with tragic characters, a woman and a man who are unable to shed the identities that divide them, even after those identities no longer have any meaning.
